‘Do We Really HAVE to?!’ Jon Stewart Grills Tim Walz Over Harris Campaign’s Embrace of Liz and Dick Cheney

Former congresswoman Liz Cheney has been a highly visible surrogate for Vice President Kamala Harris, particularly in recent days. But not all left-leaning pundits support Cheney’s presence on the trail.

In an interview Monday on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart grilled Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) about the decision to lean on Cheney as such a key figure in the campaign.

“The Cheney thing…” Stewart said, making a pained expression while the audience laughed. “Do we really have to do that?”

“It goes broader than that,” Walz said — defending the campaign. “Look, Bernie Sanders, Dick Cheney, Taylor Swift.”

Stewart interjected at the mention of the pop megastar.

“No, no, no!” Stewart said. “You can’t ‘Dick Cheney or Taylor Swift.’ No!”

“We’re a big tent!” Walz replied.

“What country did Taylor Swift get us to invade?!” Stewart shot back.

Ultimately, Walz argued the Cheneys give “permission” to certain voters to jump to the Harris campaign.

“There are a lot of people out there — I think Liz Cheney and Dick Cheney give permission to those folks who want to find a reason to do the right thing,” the governor said. “It doesn’t mean they agree with us. We’re not going to take their foreign policy decisions and discussions and implement those.”

“Promise?” Stewart said.

“Yes, promise!” Walz responded.
