Biden Catches Himself After Issuing Call to Lock Up Trump: ‘Politically, Lock Him Up’

President Joe Biden called on his White House predecessor Donald Trump to be locked up, but corrected himself to clarify he meant “politically” during a visit to New Hampshire on Tuesday.

The comment came as Trump continues to fight a series of legal battles in which he has been convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, and has been indicted in three other jurisdictions. Trump claims the Biden administration is targeting him for political purposes.

Biden was speaking in the Granite State about how his administration had lowered prescription drug costs but was not shy about speaking on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris.

The president told a crowd that if elected to a second term, Trump would quickly erase untold government jobs. Biden said:

This is really, really, really, really an important section. And folks, look, think about it, he is talking about doing away with an entire Department of Education. He’s talking – he means it, this is not a joke – this is a guy who also wants to replace every civil servant. Every single one. Thinks he has a right of the Supreme Court ruling on immunity to be able, if need be, if – if it was the case, to actually eliminate, physically eliminate. Shoot, kill someone who is – he believes to be a threat to him.

I mean, so I know this sounds bizarre. I know if I said this five years ago, you’d lock me up. We gotta lock him up.

Biden received a round of applause before he clarified he did not want to see Trump physically remanded to a jail cell.

“Politically lock him up,” Biden said. “Lock him out. That’s what we have to do.”

Trump’s social media team quickly seized on Biden’s comment on social media, commenting the president had “just said the quiet part out loud” in a post that went viral:
