Trump Lobbied Ron DeSantis To Consider Daughter-In-Law Lara Trump For Rubio Senate Seat, Per WSJ
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly leveraging his influence to urge Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to consider appointing his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, to fill Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) seat.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, Trump recently spoke with DeSantis about Lara Trump as Rubio prepares to transition to his new role as Secretary of State.
DeSantis holds the authority to appoint Rubio’s successor, and Lara Trump has already signaled her interest in the position.
On Monday, she told the Associated Press: “It is something I would seriously consider. If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like… But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
The statement was made on Sunday, the same day the 42-year-old announced her resignation as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a decision that fueled speculation about her political aspirations.
The Wall Street Journal notes that her candidacy is gaining traction among Republican circles, with allies touting her as a logical choice to fill Rubio’s term, which runs through 2026.
Lara Trump’s political momentum has been bolstered by her instrumental role in orchestrating the GOP’s successes in the 2024 elections. Elected RNC co-chair in March, she oversaw the party’s efforts for the Senate and White House while maintaining their majority in the House.
An appointment to the Senate would solidify Lara Trump’s status as a key player in the Republican Party and reinforce the Trump family’s grip on its political future.
