Lara Trump is stepping down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), sparking speculation about her political future amid her father-in-law President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
Among her potential next moves is a bid for Florida’s soon-to-be-vacant Senate seat currently held by Marco Rubio after the senator was tapped as Trump’s choice for Secretary of State.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Lara Trump confirmed she is weighing her options.
“It is something I would seriously consider,” she said. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
On Sunday Lara Trump took to X to announce that her job at the RNC was “now complete.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will have the authority to appoint Rubio’s replacement if the senator is confirmed to the Cabinet. Whoever fills the seat will serve the remainder of Rubio’s term, which ends in 2026. Lara Trump’s name is already gaining traction among Republican circles as a possible appointee, bolstered by her prominent role in Republican campaigns and her deep ties to the Trump political brand.
Elected as RNC co-chair in March, Lara Trump was instrumental in helping the GOP reclaim the Senate and the White House while maintaining their slim majority in the House. Her political stock has risen considerably, making her next steps a potential bellwether for the direction of the Republican Party.
The idea of a Trump family member in the Senate has garnered enthusiasm from some high-profile supporters, including Maye Musk, the mother of billionaire Trump ally Elon Musk. Musk voiced her support for Lara Trump’s potential candidacy on social media.
“The Senate is an old man’s club. We desperately need a smart, young, outspoken woman who will reveal their secrets,” she posted on X.
