Trump’s Nominee for Ambassador to China Used to Gloat About Outsourcing American Jobs to China

A 2021 clip of former Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) gloating about his dealings in China has resurfaced after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him to be the U.S. ambassador to the country.

Trump announced the nomination Thursday night on Truth Social, praising Perdue for his “valuable expertise to help build our relationship with China.”

“He will be instrumental in implementing my strategy to maintain Peace in the region, and a productive working relationship with China’s leaders,” Trump said in the post. “David has been a loyal supporter and friend, and I look forward to working with him in his new role!”

Perdue’s past comments on his history with China, however, seem at odds with Trump’s promise to bring jobs back to the U.S.

In the 2021 clip posted by MeidasTouch senior digital editor Acyn, Perdue was shown a clip of someone claiming he “bragged under oath about how he spent most of his career outsourcing American jobs to China.” When Fox News’s Bret Baier asked Perdue for a response to the clip, the former senator simply doubled down.

“We did exactly that in 2014 and we were elected by eight points,” Perdue told Baier. “We did it again in this election and we were elected by two. We just missed this one off by a few thousand votes.”
