‘No! He Asked You Specifically!’ Kara Swisher Jumps In When CNN’s Chris Wallace Pushes Guest on Trump Nazi Language

CNN’s Kara Swisher jumped in when a conservative panelist repeatedly dodged Chris Wallace’s question about ex-President Donald Trump’s adoption of language used by the Nazis.

passage from Trump’s Veterans Day speech in New Hampshire is being widely pilloried as echoing the likes of Hitler and Benito Mussoliniincluding by President Joe Biden — and has garnered several weeks worth of headlines in just a few days.

Those remarks came up when journalists Jonah GoldbergLulu Garcia-NavarroReihan Salam, and Kara Swisher joined Wallace for this week’s edition of CNN’s  on Saturday morning.

Wallace asked the conservative Salam a pretty direct question —  — and when the guest begged off repeatedly, Swisher held his feet to the fire:

CHRIS WALLACE: This week, President Biden said talk about vermin is, quote, “language you heard in Nazi Germany in the 30s.” Reihan, is is that overstatement on the part of Joe Biden?

REIHAN SALAM: There’s a very straightforward step that President Biden can take. He can actually take these issues away by taking some decisive action on the border.

KARA SWISHER: Oh, come on! Reihan, he can’t–.

REIHAN SALAM: Right? He can he’s he’s trying to do this in fits and starts. He’s getting a lot of pushback from progressives in Congress.

CHRIS WALLACE: Are you troubled by the fact that President Trump used the word vermin to describe his domestic opposition?

REIHAN SALAM: I’m troubled by an awful lot of things. I think that he’s very –.

KARA SWISHER: No! He asked you specifically! Are you are you are you troubled by the word vermin and blood? This is, I never like to use Nazi symbolism easily and carelessly.

REIHAN SALAM: I think it’s really careless to characterize this–.

KARA SWISHER: Careless?

REIHAN SALAM: as Nazi language.

KARA SWISHER: No, vermin is–

JONAH GOLDBERG: We can debate whether it’s Nazi or not. Something can fall well short of being Nazi-like and still be really, really bad. And the way that Donald Trump talks about the role of government, talks about retribution, if it was coming out of the mouth of a Democrat, most of the people defending him would be horrified. The people who freaked out when Hillary Clinton used the word deplorable are now saying, Well, what’s the big deal about vermin? I mean, you should have one standard for politicians regardless.

REIHAN SALAM: And I think that it’s totally objectionable and it’s going to be counterproductive for him politically. Right. And as far as the Trump campaign is concerned, that’s something they need to focus on. Fortunately, I am not the Trump campaign. Right. It’s their business how they’re going to figure it out. But I certainly think that it’s going.

CHRIS WALLACE: I think a lot of people would be very happy to have you.

JONAH GOLDBERG: And you’re one of the people I would like to have in there.
