‘Would Be a Miracle’: CNN’s Chris Wallace Says Kamala Harris Win Would Be ‘Remarkable’ Given Exit Poll Mood
After CNN’s David Chalian presented some preliminary exit poll responses on CNN that showed a very negative mood about the current state of the nation, Chris Wallace said that overcoming what they show about how American feels going into the election would be a “miracle” on the part of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Anchor Jake Tapper turned to his panel after Chalian covered the numbers, which he repeatedly cautioned were early and preliminary, to discuss what they might show about how the vote will go.
Tapper again noted the results are early, but also pointed out that they aren’t that different from what polling has show for months about dissatisfaction with state of the country under the administration of President Joe Biden and Democratic nominee Harris.
Dana Bash responded by saying that it isn’t necessarily the case that dissatisfaction cuts against Harris “because this is such a different election,” telling Tapper “Harris is part of the current administration, but Donald Trump and the Trump era is very much upon us.”
“I got to say, I think that’s putting the best spin on it,” said Wallace. “I think when you see current voters saying that by a 3 to 1 margin, that they are dissatisfied with the country -”
At that point Tapper interjected “And angry! Dissatisfied and angry!” before Wallace continued.
“I got to say, I think that with the present conditions in the country, I mean, in conventional terms, it would be a miracle that Kamala Harris could win with that kind of headwind,” he said.
He made the point, after some crosstalk, that if she is able to win, it will demonstrate that she has done “a remarkable job of somehow separating herself that she’s part of the solution and not part of the problem.”
Wallace: I got to say, I think that that’s with the present conditions in the country. I mean, in conventional terms, it would be a miracle that Kamala Harris could win with that kind of headwind. And also with the president – remember, she was part of the administration, the Biden Harris administration, with 41% approve, 58% disapprove. It isn’t even close to the 50% that

Wallace: Let me just finish my point, which is which is just that if she is able to overcome those numbers and still win this election, then she has done a remarkable job of somehow separating herself that she’s part of the solution and not part of the problem.
