‘You Ruined My Day!’ Chris Wallace Twists Knife On Shark Tank Host Kevin O’Leary Over Epic Billion Dollar Fail

CNN anchor Chris Wallace rubbed salt in Shark Tank co-host Kevin O’Leary’s wound over a brutal fail that had O’Leary telling a billion-dollar meal ticket “You’re dead to me!”

Wallace interviewed O’Leary — nicknamed “Mr. Wonderful” on his business-oriented reality competition show — for this week’s edition of his Max series Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on various topics, including his on-air persona, his relationships with co-hosts, his track record as an investor, and more.

In one exchange, Wallace made O’Leary relive the time he lambasted and rejected the man who would later sell his idea — a video doorbell you may have heard of — for a cool billion:

WALLACE: But before you get too full of yourself, then there’s the story of door bot – a home doorbell, security system, and let’s look at this exchange.

WALLACE: So that guy, Jamie, ended up changing the name of the company from Doorbot to something called Ring, and he ended up selling it to Amazon for $1 billion. What happened?

O’LEARY: Thank you for bringing it up, Chris, you’ve ruined my day. I get this one shoved in my face all the time. Jamie and I are close friends now. We celebrate on the fifth of July every year at a luncheon in Nantucket where he keeps his summer home. I love the guy. You know, I will say one thing that we should all consider. I’ll do 10, 12, 15, deals a year, and I’m sure that three or four of them are going to be huge hits for me and pay for all the mistakes. And that never works out that way, ever. It’s the craziest ones that I think that are just random pot shots like cat DNA tests or something like that, that end up making 50 times on your money and pay for all of your mistakes. Venture investing is random. There’s a lot of luck in it. You need diversification. That was a good example of one that got away.
