Kari Lake admitted she doesn’t know who exactly “stole” the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election from her, but she’d like to move on from her widely debunked claims of election fraud as she runs for the U.S. Senate in the state.

Lake was interviewed on KTAR on Monday about a wide range of issues, and things became testy when frequent critic Barry Markson repeatedly asked her who “stole” the election and how.

“If you’re right, why have you lost every single court case you filed about elections?” Markson asked during the interview, referring to Lake’s legal losses in trying to challenge the gubernatorial results.

Lake blamed the media — and Markson, in particular — for focusing on her election fraud claims more than her, claiming critics wrongly blame her for only looking backwards.

“Actually Kari, you’ve brought it up. You still have pending lawsuits,” Markson noted, then repeated his question.

Lake insisted her election challenges are more to ensure safe elections for Arizona residents, noting she wants to cut down on wait times at polling locations and ensure more are fully operational on election day.

“We can look at my lawsuits, but I don’t want to sit and look backwards because, as you have complained, ‘she just constantly looks backward.’ I want to look forward and these lawsuits are meant to make sure that going forward, our elections are strong, that the people of Arizona have faith in them,” she said.

After some back and forth, Markson repeated his question again.

“My question is, as you’ve been saying for three years — or for two years — can you tell us who stole the election from you and how they did it and if you can’t or you don’t want to, that’s okay, but I want to make sure the question is there in front of you,” he said.

“I don’t know who exactly stole the election, but there are a lot of people who are running elections poorly and we’ve seen the result,” Lake said.

She added, “The elections are run poorly. They’re run very poorly and I don’t know who exactly.”

During her interview, Lake also addressed the controversy around past remarks about the late John McCain, a longtime senator from Arizona. In 2022 at a campaign event, Lake referred to McCain as a “loser.” On Monday, she told Republicans to grow “thicker skin” and insisted McCain would have laughed off the campaign talk.

McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, responded to Lake’s comments with a promise on X, formerly Twitter: “No peace, bitch.”

You can listen to Lake’s entire KTAR interview above. The election talk begins at approximately 7:15.
