George Conway Holds Up ‘Appalling’ Trump Email Looking to Fundraise off False Claim FBI Tried to Assassinate Him: ‘Nearly Escaped Death’
Conservative attorney George Conway held up a fundraising email from Donald Trump in which he suggested the FBI sought to assassinate him.
On Friday night, Special Counsel Jack Smith asked U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon to bar the former president from making incendiary statements about law enforcement agents involved in the Mar-a-Lago documents case. Trump has been charged with retaining classified documents after leaving office and obstructing the government’s efforts to retrieve them. Trump has pleaded not guilty.
The ex-president alleged this week that the Biden administration “authorized the use of ‘deadly force’” in the raid. Some Republicans subsequently claimed the FBI tried to “assassinate” Trump. However, legal observers noted that the term “deadly force” regularly appears in search warrants, in case law enforcement meets armed resistance.
Appearing on Friday’s edition of The Source, Conway hailed Smith’s request and slammed Trump’s claims about the Biden administration wanting to use lethal force on him. Host Kaitlan Collins noted that Trump’s claim to be “the law and order president” is at odds with his rhetoric about the FBI.
“I don’t think there are terms that are stark enough to describe what Donald Trump has done here,” Conway responded. “He’s a pathological liar. He lies about everything, but this lie is just an exceedingly dangerous lie.”
Conway went on to call Trump’s claim “an attack on the entire legal system.” He then reached for his phone to show an email from the former president’s campaign:
And to emphasize how dramatic this is, this message is going out to tens of millions of people who are on the campaign mailing list. I have the email right here, the campaign email.
“‘I nearly escaped death’ – from Donald Trump… They’re just itching to do the unthinkable.”
There it is. He’s basically accusing the government of trying to take him out. And you know, 10 million people get this email. I don’t know how many people get this email. All it takes is one or two of them to shoot somebody, saying, thinking that, “Hey, the government’s trying to shoot my president. I’m gonna fight back!”
And that’s just– it’s absolutely appalling!
The email in question alleged, “Biden’s DOJ was locked and loaded for deadly force at Mar-a-Lago.”
