George Conway and Alex Wagner Mock Trump’s ‘Nonexistent Department’ to Be Run by Musk: ‘A Fantasy Football League’
President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday night that he will create the “Department of Government Efficiency,” which will be led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
The “department” will apparently serve in an advisory capacity because the creation of federal departments requires congressional approval. While Republicans will narrowly control both chambers come January, there may be little appetite to create yet another government agency, even if it is premised on making government more efficient.
Hours after the announcement, Alex Wagner and George Conway mocked the idea on MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight.
“Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk [are] being offered jobs in a fantasy football league,” Wagner cracked.
“A nonexistent department!” Conway exclaimed.
“The ‘Department of Government Efficiency,'” she replied. “Nothing has been more Orwellian in title. It doesn’t actually exist. Can they bring it into existence by the sheer force of their own will? What do you think is the plan here?”
“First of all, it’s not going to be a governmental department as I understand it,” Conway answered. “And there are actually rules and statutes that apply, I think. The Federal Advisory Committee Act talks about regulat[ing] from an ethics standpoint, people who are coming in and being consulted on how to run the government. And I’m not an expert in that, but we’re gonna end up knowing a lot more about it in the not-too-distant future, I think.”
Musk advocated for the creation of a “Department of Government Efficiency,” whose acronym “DOGE” is an homage to Dogecoin, a virtually worthless cryptocurrency he has promoted.
