Colby Hall Mocks ‘Edgelord’ Elon Musk Joking About Buying MSNBC: ‘Causing a LOT of Anxiety’ for ‘Freaked Out’ MSNBC Staff
Mediaite Founding Editor Coby Hall says Elon Musk has been stirring the pot more vigorously than usual lately in an effort to “freak out” left-wing media following Donald Trump’s re-election.
“Elon Musk is a provocateur,” Hall told NewsNation’s Marni Hughes, who asked if the X owner was serious about buying MSNBC. “In online language, we call him an ‘Edgelord.’ He loves to be sort of contrarian, edgy, just to get people’s attention.”
Hall called Musk the “first buddy to the most powerful person-elect in the world” and said the billionaire founder of Tesla and SpaceX is using his new-found status to attack liberals.
According to CNN, “Elon Musk has called MSNBC ‘the utter scum of the Earth.’ He has said the channel ‘peddles puerile propaganda.’ Just a few days ago he said, ‘MSNBC is going down.’ And now he is posting memes about buying the channel.”
When pressed on his joke about buying the progressive network, Hall replied, “I don’t think it’s realistic at all. MSNBC isn’t really being sold off, and I think this is just, again…Elon Musk just making jokes to sort of troll his political rivals.” Hall continued:
And if you look at who jumped on to this joke, it was Matt Gaetz and Donald Trump Jr., and you know what it does, is causes anxiety amongst the people on the progressive side of partisan media especially at MSNBC who frankly are probably freaked out right now because it’s not clear. I wrote a column last week that says the spinning off of MSNBC feels like a death knell at least for the first iteration of MSNBC who painted themselves into a severe partisan quarter so … it’s tough times ahead for MSNBC and how they pivot. I don’t think trips to Mar-a-Lago is going to get them out of the mess that they’ve painted themselves into.”
Hall was referring to Morning Joe Hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, who caused an uproar for traveling to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club and extending an olive branch after months of warning that Trump was a dangerous fascist.
