‘Is That What Happened?’ Newsmax Host Asks GOP Rep If Trump Was Really Acting Like ‘Drunk Uncle’ At Capitol Hill Meeting
Newsmax host Ed Henry asked an attendee if it’s true that ex-President Donald Trump was like a “drunk uncle” when he met with Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Trump met with congressional Republicans on Capitol Hill Thursday, many of whom he had not seen since the January 6 attack, and for the first time since becoming a convicted felon. It was a wild meeting that was followed by a chummy press conference at the NRSC.
A lot of attention-getting quotes were reported out of that meeting, including one attendee who said meeting with Trump was “like talking to your drunk uncle at the family reunion.”
Henry — formerly Fox News and CNN White House correspondent who also did a stint at Real America’s Voice — interviewed Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) on Thursday night’s edition of Newsmax TV’s PrimeNews, and asked if that source got it right:
ED HENRY: Caught our eye today, and you were inside the room with former President Trump so I want to run this fake news past you.
Brian Stelter, formerly of CNN, they like to call him Mr. Potato Head.
He retweets and posts this thing, a source in the room told @NOTUSReports. By the way, never heard of NOTUSReports, but they’ll run with anything that’s anti-Trump.
Claims Trump was, quote, :rambling. It was like talking to your drunk uncle at the family reunion.”.
This is how the mainstream media wants to characterize what happened on Capitol Hill today. Is that what happened? You were in the room. I wasn’t, Brian Stelter, wasn’t?
REP. TIM BURCHETT: None. None whatsoever. As a matter of fact, the president was right on.
You know, it was interesting if you draw a difference between him and Joe Biden. I mean, Joe Biden sees people he’s known his whole life and he doesn’t know who they are.
Trump was picking people out in the crowd, random members, and was saying, oh, yeah, remember when you were down? Whenever. And we did this and we make phone calls to these people and others and, you know, you know, he’s talking to a doctor that was in the room about some things.
You know, it was it was very I thought he was on fire. And I thought that he he handled it very well. And the media’s, everything he said that they said, he said he’s wrong. He said, you know, he attacked Marjorie Taylor Greene. He didn’t attack Marjorie.
The last thing he said was, you know, thank you for coming to my events travel and, you know, long nest miles to come there. And people love you. You’re doing great work. And then they said, well, he took a shot at Taylor Swift.
He didn’t take a shot. All he was it she’s not out front for Joe Biden this time. You know, just just go through the list.
And, you know, he he made some great points about Cuba and the Russians being there with nukes, nuclear capabilities and how that if that was under him, that that would be that would mean that all they would be talking about, you know that I know that. The media knows that. You know that the American public knows that.
ED HENRY: And they’re also lying about what he said about the great state of Milwaukee.
