McCain Dings Hillary For Continued Fixation on 2016: ‘What’s the F*cking Point?’

Get over it.

That’s the message from Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) to Hillary Clinton. In an interview with Esquire the Arizona senator panned Clinton’s election post-mortem book, What Happened, for coming out far too soon after the former Secretary of State’s loss.

“What’s the fucking point?” McCain said. “Keep the fight up? History will judge that campaign, and it’s always a period of time before they do. You’ve got to move on. This is Hillary’s problem right now: She doesn’t have anything to do.”

The words carry more weight coming from McCain — one of the few people in America who can truly relate with Clinton, having suffered visible defeats in the 2000 Presidential primary and the 2008 general election, as Clinton did in 2008 and 2016 respectively. But one of the major differences between the two, of course, was that McCain was able to return to the Senate following his defeat, whereas Clinton no longer holds political office.

It’s a plight with which McCain does not appear to be unsympathetic. Nonetheless, he believes that the best thing for Clinton to do, at present, is withdraw from the spotlight — at least for the time being.

“You’ve got to understand that you can’t rewrite history,” McCain said. “One of the almost irresistible impulses you have when you lose is to somehow justify why you lost and how you were mistreated: ‘I did the right thing! I did!’ The hardest thing to do is to just shut up.”
