Vice President Kamala Harris called former President Donald Trump to concede the race on Wednesday afternoon, according to a report.
The Washington Post‘s Josh Dawsey reported, “Vice President Kamala Harris has called President-Elect Trump to concede and congratulate him, per a Harris aide.”
CNN’s Betsy Klein further reported:
Vice President Kamala Harris has officially conceded the 2024 election, calling President-elect Donald Trump to offer her congratulations on Wednesday.
Harris, a senior aide said, “called President-elect Trump to congratulate him on winning the 2024 presidential election. She discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans.”
A person familiar tells CNN the call only lasted a few minutes.
Harris is set to deliver remarks at 4 p.m. ET at Howard University — her alma mater.
Harris was scheduled to speak at the school on Tuesday night but canceled her remarks after early battleground state returns looked grim.
Trump defeated Harris Tuesday to secure a second term in the White House – winning both the popular vote and breaking the so-called blue wall Democrats hoped would propel Harris to victory.
Trump ultimately won in Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The former president also led in Arizona and Nevada Wednesday afternoon and appeared primed to sweep all seven swing states.
Republicans further walked away from Tuesday with a Senate majority and a strong chance at keeping the House.
