Fox’s John Roberts Shocked That Biden Was Reading Answers ‘From a Lengthy Set of Notes’

Fox News’ John Roberts claimed that President Joe Biden was reading “from a lengthy set of notes” when answering questions during a press conference with Kenya’s leader, a fact that Roberts said sat with him “a little weirdly.”

Kenya’s President William Ruto was on an official three-day state visit to the United States, where the East African nation was being declared a major non-NATO ally. After a joint address Thursday, the two leaders took questions, during which Biden appeared to read from notes on his lectern.

At the conclusion, Roberts said to his America Reports co-host Sandra Smith, “I was really curious about — and it was really highlighted at the end of that, Sandra — was the president — to the Kenyan reporter, the president said, ‘I’m sorry, what was your question?’ She repeats the question, and then he reads off a lengthy set of notes.”

SMITH: Mmhmm, on multiple occasions.

ROBERTS: That sat with me a little weirdly.

SMITH: On multiple occasions he asked for the question to be repeated, at one point telling a reporter asking a question on the ICC, ahead of a question to Ruto, quote, “You guys never keep the deal, but that’s OK.” Indicating that the question was known and that they strayed from the question. One reporter even tried to get in a second question, he said, “No, just one.”

ROBERTS: Yeah, I’m wondering, was the deal like one question or was it straying from the intended question?

SMITH: We don’t know.

ROBERTS: Raises more questions about, how much do they know going into these news conferences?

SMITH: Fair enough.

Presidents before Biden have been known to use notecards, including former President Donald Trump.

However, Roberts claimed, “I covered Clinton, I covered Bush 43, and I covered Trump. I never, ever, saw them using notes in a situation like this. And I was in Singapore with Trump when he had his first meeting with Kim Jong Un. He went for an hour answering every question that anybody put to him. Never once glanced down at the lectern. He was just, off the top of his head.”
