Biden Gets Bombarded With Questions About Hunter’s Pardon — Brushes It Off With Sarcastic Quip to Fellow World Leader

President Joe Biden made light of the media hounding him over his son’s pardon during a visit with the president of Angola on Tuesday.

After stunning the country by announcing that he had pardoned his son Hunter Biden on Sunday, Biden flew to Africa to visit Angolan President Joao Lourenco. Before he boarded Air Force One, reporters shouted out questions about the pardon.

The next day, Biden delivered remarks in a public meeting with Lourenco.

“I want to thank you very much for your personal welcome,” Biden said. “I want to thank your colleagues for treating us so well since we’ve been here. And I mean it from the bottom of my heart: the future of the world is in Africa. That’s not hyperbole. There’s gonna be a billion people very shortly in this continent, very diverse continent; and by another 20 years, you’ll be the largest [continent] in the world. So, we need you to succeed… The more you succeed, the more we succeed, the more the world succeeds. So thank you for being willing to have me and willing to talk to me, and I look forward to a long relationship. Thank you very much.”

Seconds later, reporters began shouting a variety of questions. Amid the cacophony, one reporter could be heard asking if Biden thinks President-elect Donald Trump will continue his efforts in Africa. Then, that same reporter asked why he pardoned Hunter.

Biden looked across the room to the Angolan president and smiled as the questions continued.

“Welcome to America,” Biden said.
