Fox News host Laura Ingraham took aim at Republican Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) on Sunday, accusing the close Trump ally of “undermining” the president-elect by boasting of the country’s long-held checks and balances.

“Why does NDakota have a senator who is already undermining Pres-elect Trump?” Ingraham wrote on X, and quoted from a Politico article:

“Sen. Mike Rounds (R-ND) said he came to Halifax with a message that there are still three branches of the U.S. government, and the Senate will guard its independence….”

Rounds spoke at the Halifax International Security Forum over the weekend and was widely praised for his blazing takedown of the idea that peace in Ukraine should be negotiated by giving concessions to Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

The Politico article Ingraham shared reported on Rounds trying to reassure U.S. allies while at the Congress. “Rounds said he spent the weekend working to ‘reset the stage, let everybody know that everything is going to be okay, that we’re moving forward and that there is a consistency within the Senate, and we believe there will be a consistency within the House as we…welcome former President Trump back in as the president-elect,’” wrote Politico.

Ingraham’s post was slapped with a Community Note from X that corrected her for misstating where Rounds is from (which Politico did in the article as well) and added, “Senator Rounds said nothing that “undermines” Trump. Congress is constitutionally a co-equal branch of government to the executive branch.”
