Fox’s Jonathan Turley Offers Advice to Donald Trump: He ‘Has Got to Comply with the Gag Order’

Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley offered former President Donald Trump some legal advice on air on Wednesday, imploring him to comply with the gag order imposed on him by Judge Juan Merchan in his hush money trial in New York City.

Turley first outlined his issue with “the scope of the order,” arguing that there is an “inequity” to the fact that his former lawyer and witness in the case, Michael Cohen, can attack Trump in the press while Trump is prohibited from returning fire.

“You’ve got Cohen going on the air every night, not just opposing the president in this trial, but opposing him in the campaign. according to this order, even after he testifies, the president cannot respond to him. So all these networks constantly have him on, and somehow he’s in this bubble,” he mused.

After blasting what he called a “facially ridiculous” order, Turley was asked what he would tell Trump to do in regards to the order.

“I think that Donald Trump has got to comply with the gag order,” replied Turley matter-of-factly. “There’s other people that are criticizing Michael Cohen.”

“This is a very weak case, they’re trying to get him to trip a wire,” he counseled. “Don’t give them what they want. This case is based on no good law, in my view, and you should let it collapse on its own weight.”

Merchan oversaw a hearing to determine if Trump had violated the gag order on Tuesday, but has not yet made a ruling. He did, however, rebuke Trump attorney Todd Blanche during the hearing for suggesting that the defense was “trying to comply” with the order, telling Blanche that he was “losing all credibility with the court!”

Trump protested the gag order on Truth Social Wednesday, calling it “totally UNCONSTIUTIONAL.”

“The Conflicted Judge’s friends and party members can say whatever they want about me, but I am not allowed to respond,” he wrote. “The Trial is Rigged.”
