WATCH: Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Bails On Parliament to Deal With Rainbow Bridge Explosion
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau excused himself from a session of Parliament on Wednesday so that he could attend to the unfolding situation at the U.S.-Canadian border.
On Wednesday, the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls was closed because of an explosion involving a vehicle that was passing through security checkpoints on its way into the United States. The FBI is investigating the incident for possible terrorism, and in Parliament, Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre asked Trudeau what he knew about the incident and what action was being taken.
Outlining the level of response by the Canadian authorities, Trudeau told the assembly “There are a lot of questions. We’re following up and trying to get as many answers as rapidly as possible. We’re in close contact with U.S. officials and will work closely with them.”
Trudeau confirmed that the U.S.-Canadian border’s closure at multiple points as he insisted “we’re taking this extraordinarily seriously.” With that, Trudeau announced “Mr. Speaker, I will have to excuse myself to go get further updates and work on this very serious situation. Thank you.”
