Daily Show Finds RFK Jr. Voters Disappointed VP Pick Wasn’t for Aaron Rodgers, Tony Robbins, or Oprah: ‘Depressing!’
The Daily Show’s Michael Kosta made his way to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s vice presidential candidate announcement in Oakland, California and found voters mostly disappointed in the pick of Nicole Shanahan.
Before the announcement, Kosta spoke with voters who were excited by names like quarterback Aaron Rodgers and life coach Tony Robbins.
“Aaron Rodgers just because he’s also anti-mandatory vaccine,” one voter said about their choice for a vice president pick.
Another called Rodgers “amazing.”
“I really like how Aaron Rodgers stood up and spoke out against the Covid tyranny,” one voter said.
“Aaron Rodgers is the only guy with experience, the Joe Rogan Experience,” Kosta joked, referring to Rogers appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
More voters floated Robbins as a pick before the announcement was actually made.
“How exciting is this, we have a complete ticket, and the VP candidate is?” Kosta asked a voter after the event.
“Nicole Shanahan,” she said.
“And that is?” Kosta asked.
“Depressing!” she said.
Mediaite’s Diana Falzone was first to report earlier this month that Shanahan was the top pick for the Kennedy ticket’s vice presidential slot. Shanahan has been a supporter of Kennedy Jr.’s campaign and was behind his Super Bowl ad.
Most voters talking to Kosta said they had never heard of Shanahan.
“I guess I was a little disappointed,” one said.
Another voter said he was surprised because he thought Kennedy Jr. would pick someone like Oprah Winfrey.
“I thought maybe he would pick, like, an inside politics, like, Black woman. That’s who I thought he would pick,” he said.
Pressed for his favorite “inside politics Black woman,” the supporter threw out Oprah’s name.
“That would have been a good pick,” he said. “Probably couldn’t get her though.”
