RFK Jr Defends Why He’s Considering ‘Battle Tested’ NFL Quarterback Aaron Rodgers for VP on Fox News
Fox News gave independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. the opportunity to make his case on Wednesday night, and host Trace Gallagher brought up the latest development in his campaign: his potential choice for a running mate.
One of the names floated was NY Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who made more headlines for spouting anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and unfounded smear attacks than for playing football last year after he was injured in his new team’s first game of the season.
One of those conspiracy theories, as reported by CNN’s Pamela Brown and Jake Tapper on Wednesday, was that the Sandy Hook shooting never happened. Rodgers is also a September 11th “truther,” according to former Green Bay Packers backup quarterback DeShone Kizer.
Kennedy has garnered his own headlines for his stance against Covid vaccines and has his own conspiratorial beliefs about the pandemic.
Gallagher didn’t bring up any of these subjects during their conversation, but he did allow Kennedy to provide his defense of considering Rodgers as a choice for his ticket:
Well, he’s — you know, he’s one of the people that we’ve talked to. I really like Aaron because, you know, our appeal is to young people, we’re trying to make sure the young people are participating in the political process, that they have hoped for America. We want somebody, the people who have run up the $34 trillion debt, which they’re dumping on that generation, are all older people. And we want somebody young who’s going to look out for that generation. Aaron Rodgers is battle-tested.
He’s stood up. He’s been hammered by the press, stood up for things we believe in. I like that part of his character. He’s a critical thinker and I think we need that at the time as you know the rise of A.I. We need people who understand that you cannot always trust authority just because somebody’s in charge. It doesn’t mean that they’re telling you the truth and we want somebody who’s going to critically examine.
My father used to say one of the duties of living as a citizen of democracy is to maintain a constant posture of skepticism toward authority. And I think Aaron’s shown that. He’s also somebody who I think will help me get the country healthy again. You know, he’s 40 years old. He’s focused on his own health. He’s very aware of health issues. And you know, that’s one of the things I’m going to — that’s one of the key parts of my agenda is to get the country healthy again.
