Lara Trump Raises Eyebrows With Promise to Stop ‘Illegal Citizens’ From Voting
Fox anchor Maria Bartiromo interviewed Republican National Committee Co-Chair Lara Trump on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures and the two continued to promote the claim that illegal immigrants are voting in U.S. elections, despite extensive audits and court rulings in 2020 finding that U.S. elections are secure. During the interview, Lara Trump said that the GOP was focused on ensuring “illegal citizens” do not vote, a gaffe that quickly raised eyebrows online.
“We have gone above and beyond anything that you’ve ever seen from the RNC. This election cycle, obviously, we have our election integrity operation underway. We’ve already recruited 165,000 volunteers to be poll watchers,” Lara Trump told Bartiromo adding:
Poll workers work in the tabulation centers. We have pledged 500 lawyers on the ground in every battleground state. And in addition to that, we have had to go, unfortunately. But we have had to go state by state and make sure they’re doing things like cleaning up their voter rolls, making sure that there are no illegals on their voter rolls.
So whether you’re talking about ensuring that illegals are clean off the voter rolls, they can’t register to vote in certain states or generally sending out the message, Maria, that if you’re a person who is attempting to cheat in our elections or an illegal citizen attempting to illegally vote in our elections, we will find you, will track you down, and will prosecute you to the full extent of the law. We’re watching everything
“Unbelievable. I’ll tell you, it’s hard to keep up with all of these political dirty tricks,” Bartiromo replied.
Bartiromo landed in hot water last week after she shared on social media and her Fox Business host a claim “from a friend” that immigrants were being registered to vote at Texas DMVs. Sgt. William Lockridge, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in a statement that the statement Bartiromo shared is “simply false.”
“None of it is true,” Lockridge added and called the claims “kind of racist,” adding, “Just because these people aren’t white, that doesn’t mean they’re illegal.”
Lara Trump’s “illegal citizen” phrase elicited a similar response and just general confusion at the contradiction in the term. Below are some of those reactions:
“Word salad” does an injustice to salad. A citizen is de facto legal. https://t.co/5JU5Wc9eeq

Are they going with “illegal citizens” now? Truly impossible to tell if this was her misspeaking or if it was intentional. https://t.co/vbFCPYd5eJ

“Illegal citizen”?
Do most people thinks words like citizens are euphemisms for “people”? https://t.co/356Rw4lw18

If “illegal citizen” means a citizen who’s broken the law, I have some news about your father-in-law, Lara. https://t.co/KagwavWVhf

What’s an “illegal citizen”, ma’am? https://t.co/7f258scoKe

Last month, I went straight to the lion’s den and reviewed the Heritage Foundation’s own database of proven cases of voter fraud dating back to the 1980s.
They had only documented 10 cases TOTAL where an undocumented immigrant had voted.

Trump has already lost over 60 courts where he alleged widespread election fraud.
What other fear tactic do you have? Because this one is as tired and stale as a Trump stump speech. https://t.co/lWzOCG1c0e
