Erick Erickson Urges Senate Republicans to Block ‘Progressive Pro-Abortion Environmental Nut Job’ RFK Jr.’s Nomination
Conservative radio host Erick Erickson offered a sharp condemnation of President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be the next Secretary of Health and Human Services, urging Senate Republicans to block the nomination because of Kennedy’s personal history and progressive views.
On Thursday, the former and future president announced his intention to nominate Kennedy, a controversial decision due to Kennedy’s long history of promoting conspiracy theories and misinformation about vaccines and other health topics.
On Monday’s episode of his eponymous show, Erickson sought to sway Senate Republicans to reject Kennedy, appealing to their conservative “worldview.”
“Your worldview matters,” began Erickson in a clip he tweeted, and that’s why the Senate Republicans should “kill” Kennedy’s nomination — “because his worldview is not a worldview that any Bible-believing Christian should support.”
Kennedy is a “progressive pro-abortion environmental nut job,” Erickson continued, and “you people” only like him “because he cares about what’s put in our food — and there are plenty of other people out there who do, who never allegedly drove their wives to commit suicide.”
Erickson then recounted the tragic demise of Kennedy’s second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, after Kennedy “openly flouted” his extramarital affairs and “she went into depression, despair, and dependency, and ultimately after he decided to divorce her, committed suicide after finding his journal” where he recorded the details of his affairs with “37 different women!”
“Sometimes multiple different women on the same day!” added a clearly disgusted Erickson, describing how Kennedy sent naked photos of his “sexual conquests” to his friends to “document his exploits” and then after he filed for divorce, suddenly claimed she was abusive and he needed a restraining order, despite never mentioning anything like that in his journal.
“She hanged herself! And even though he filed for divorce, he refused to allow her family to bury her,” Erickson continued, describing how Kennedy had buried her in the Kennedy family plot but then dug her up and moved her body.
“That’s the man some of you think is qualified to be Secretary of Health and Human Services,” said Erickson, a position that “oversees one-quarter of the spending of the entire discretionary budget of the United States government” (meaning spending outside of Social Security, Medicare, and debt service payments).
“And you wanna put a pro-abortion Kennedy progressive womanizer in charge of that position?!” he said. “Because he questions the Covid vaccine and thinks we shouldn’t have red dye number 5 in food?”
“Oh my gosh!” an incensed Erickson continued, slamming his hands on the table and wondering out loud if there was not a “single person on planet Earth” who could do the job of HHS Secretary but didn’t drive his wife to suicide and “won’t even give her family the body!”
“Is there not a single person alive who fill that job other than a Kennedy kook?!”
“Personnel is policy,” Erickson emphasized, and Trump’s nomination of Kennedy was putting a “gun control zealot” and “abortion advocate” in charge of the vast policy areas that HHS regulated.
“Never mind his worldview! Never mind his character! Never mind his dead ex-wife, who didn’t actually get divorced from him! Never mind all of those problems! Never mind that his sexual predilections have not been in the past, but in the here and now — Hello, Olivia Nuzzi!”
Erickson’s tweet of the clip drew numerous critical replies, and he tweeted his response later Monday, writing that these critics are showing “some serious ignorance of the role of HHS and its regulatory and budgeting powers.”
The radio host’s bio seems to indicate he is unlikely to be swayed by the critics.
“I’m okay with being the object of scorn from morons,” it says.
