A Biden campaign official reportedly attempted to soothe the concerns of key supporters about President Joe Biden’s mental fitness on Wednesday with assurances that the administration has a “brain trust” of three other people they want “running the country” – including First Lady Jill Biden.

Campaign spokesperson Laura Brounstein was talking in a private call via Zoom to members of the grassroots group Jewish Women for Joe and other donors from the Jewish community who said they were “unable to sleep” over fears Biden is unable to beat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

According to Jewish Insider, which received a leaked recording of the call, Brounstein began by painting a picture of Biden as a dynamic and fully engaged president, describing him as a “busy, in control, crushing it.”

She said: “Obviously the debate sucked [but] he came back so quickly, and he showed himself to be the thoughtful, powerful, again, vigorous leader he has been throughout his presidency.”

However, in a further revelation, the campaign spokesperson shifted focus and, admitting that “aging is progressive”, focused on the behind-the-scenes support structure surrounding Biden as key to the next administration.

Brounstein said: “The brain trust of the Biden presidency is who we want running the country” before naming First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff as “people that we want involved in our future.”

The report comes as Jill Biden comes under conservative scrutiny, from the likes of commentator Megyn Kelly and the Fox & Friends hosts who have criticized her prominent role in political campaigning on behalf of her husband and accused her of “directing things inside of the Oval Office” or running a “shadow presidency.”

Despite Brounstein’s efforts, however, Jewish Insider reports that the call did little to alleviate the worries of the donors, many of whom continued to express their dissatisfaction in the Zoom chat who expressed fears of a second Trump term and asked how to respond to criticism about Biden’s appearance.
