The Patriots Are So Bad That the Player Used to Promote Upcoming Games Is Now… Coach Bill Belichick?
The 2023 season has been so miserable for the New England Patriots that Amazon’s producers apparently couldn’t think of a player worth showcasing to promote their next primetime game.
During the Thursday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks, the broadcast displayed a graphic for next Thursday’s game between the Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Traditionally included in this kind of graphic is a photo of each team’s top player.
For the Steelers, that player was linebacker T.J. Watt, who’s once again performing at a historic pace with 13.5 sacks through 11 games.
The Patriots, on the other hand, don’t have a player like that and Amazon chose to go with coach Bill Belichick.
After a disappointing 2022 season in which the team finished 8-9 and missed the playoffs, the Patriots have gotten off to an even worse start this season, losing nine of their first 11 games. Quarterback Mac Jones — at one point thought to be Tom Brady’s successor — has struggled so much that he was actually benched.
For a team that terrorized the entire NFL for more than a decade, the drop-off is nothing short of staggering. In fact, it’s been so noteworthy that even former president Donald Trump felt the need to call them out during a recent rally.
While the image of Belichick and Watt being counterparts is funny, it can be argued that Amazon made the right decision.
