‘I’ve Answered That Question Three Times’: Bill Belichick Gets Snappy After Being Asked About His Future With the Patriots
In a rare show of emotion, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick let the media know he’s gotten tired of the questions about his future with the team.
The Patriots ended their disastrous season with a 17-3 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday. With the loss, the team fell to 4-13.
In the four seasons without superstar quarterback Tom Brady, the Patriots failed to make the playoffs in three of them.
As the bad season got even worse each week, many began to speculate that this would be Belichick’s last season with New England. As he’s done in the past, Belichick deflected and reiterated that he was simply focusing on the next game on the schedule.
In his final press conference of the season, he didn’t have the luxury of doing that. Still, he remained predictably tight-lipped on the status of his job.
One reporter asked if Belichick had spoken to team owner Robert Kraft this season. According to the reporter, it was rumored the two hadn’t spoken at all.
“We’ve met during the season,” Belichick said.
When the reporter followed up, Belichick seemed frustrated with the line of questioning and cut him off.
“We doing a follow-up?” Belichick said. “I don’t understand. I’m just answering the question.”
The reporter then clarified that he was simply asking if he’d had any discussions with Kraft about his future.
“I’ve answered that question three times,” the coach said.
The conference ended immediately after Belichick’s answer.
