Fox Airs Misleading Segment Suggesting Florida School District is Teaching Three-Year-Olds the ‘ABCs of Masturbation’

A Florida school district was not suggesting three-year-olds should be taught the “ABC’s of Masturbation,” contrary to how it was portrayed by Fox News @ Night’s Trace Gallagher.

Gallagher reported this week, “Well, the school district in Florida apparently thought three-year-olds needed to know their ABCs about masturbation, so they came up with a guide for parents.”

Pasco County Schools, the district for the county along Florida’s Gulf Coast north of Tampa, posted a guide to their website called “Be an Askable Parent” to help parents manage difficult situations that may come up with their children. According to the school board, the resource was not geared toward children and was never shared in the classroom.

The guide “suggested ways to approach ‘typical’ situations with children concerning sex and sexuality,” according to ABC15 News.

Gallagher displayed a passage from the guide that was in a question and answer format:

“YOUR THREE-YEAR OLD CHILD TOUCHES HIS/HER GENITALS. WHY IS YOUR CHILD DOING THIS?”

A. It feels good. It reduces anxiety.

“WHAT MESSAGE DO YOU WANT TO SEND?”

A. Masturbation is OK but is private.

“POSSIBLE ANSWER:”

A. I know that feels good and you don’t have to stop. I just want you to do it in private because it’s personal.

Gallagher then played video of an upset parent addressing the school board.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t remember ever having a conversation with any of my three-year-olds where that was appropriate,” the man said. “This even goes on to teaching from four- to eight-years old. The same type of situations. I don’t feel this is safe.”

“I mean, Corey, he’s got a point there. Three year olds, the school has since taken this down. But really?” Gallagher said addressing panelist Corey DeAngelis with the American Federation for Children.

“I mean, it’s ridiculous. Why is the left willing to die on this hill?” DeAngelis said. “Talking about sexual topics with other people’s children is absolutely ridiculous…If you don’t like your school being so focused on sexualized topics in the classroom or outside the classroom, you should be able to get an opportunity to go to a private or other type of school as well.”

The school board was contacted by a parents’ group called Crisis in the Classroom, and this was the board’s response:

The document was provided to Pasco County Schools and intended for parent guidance. The document was never introduced in the classroom. The document has been removed from the site to avoid any further confusion.
