Joe Scarborough Blasts Election Denier Mike Johnson As Trump’s ‘Tool’: ‘Donald Trump Has His Guy’
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough is very worried about the future of democracy as the radical wing of the Republican party becomes more and more powerful. The latest indication of that is the election of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), whom Scarborough lambasted as a “tool” for former President Donald Trump.
After outlining how fringe Republicans who deny the results of the 2020 election and accept conspiracy theories as truth are now in power in the House of Representatives, Scarborough compared them to the radicals of decades past who want to “tear down every institution,” including the government and the presidency. And Johnson, who tried multiple times to reject the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory in the House, is now the most powerful man in the House. To Scarborough and the Morning Joe panel, this paves the way for Trump to overturn the will of voters (should he also lose the 2024 election) and be installed as president again:
Al Sharpton: I wonder if we are going to see Biden-Trump: Fight 2, in terms of a rematch. Well, what happens if it’s a close election? He’s the speaker. Will he try to stop the certification if Trump loses again?
Willie Geist: Yes.
Scarborough: Yes!
Sharpton: We need to raise that. We need to let America know that January 6 won’t be outside this time if this guy is speaker.
Scarborough: Why do you think Trump fought [Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN)] so much? Because he didn’t go along with a lie. So yeah, I mean, these things are decided in the House, Willie. So Donald Trump has his guy. He has the anti-democracy guy sitting in the speaker’s chair. I mean, I saw some press conference, just a clip where a reporter asked a question, but he started screaming. I actually, I almost said a word that I’ve said on this air a couple of times. I’ll just say, what fools. Who do they think we are? Who do they think… Do they think Americans are that stupid?
They’re all election deniers up there. And they’re mad at the press for bringing up the fact that Donald Trump now has his tool to move us towards an autocratic state where democratic elections don’t matter. He’s already done it. He led the charge to overturn a presidential election. So, yeah, we know what’s going to happen, and we know all of these presidential elections end up in the House. Donald Trump’s thinking, “I got this.”
