Jake Tapper Asks House Republican: ‘Do You Guys Have Any Idea How Clownish You Look?’
Throughout the week, Jake Tapper has become increasingly fed up with House Republicans’ inability to choose a new Speaker. On Sunday, the CNN anchor underscored his contempt with an utterly brutal question to a Republican member of Congress.
In an interview with Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), Tapper asked whether any House Republican could reach the 217 vote threshold to become speaker. And then, he lowered the boom.
“I hope you don’t take the personally,” Tapper said. “Do you guys have any idea how clownish you look?”
The congressman was sheepish in his reply.
“I’m very fond of saying that Congress is a lot like high school, but even more so,” Turner said. “So hopefully we’ll get past this. And, you know, I certainly have been part of the governing majority, and I’m going to stay part of that and look forward to those who are on the fringes, hopefully coming together so that we can get as speaker.”
Tapper recalled a conversation he had Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR) last week, where the CNN anchor made the some comparison between Congressmen and high schoolers.
“He said ‘that’s an insult to high school students, it’s more like junior high,” Tapper said.
House Republicans will take yet another swing at trying to choose a Speaker on Tuesday.
