MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Takes Dig At Trump Press Shop While Praising Psaki For ‘Honesty and Truth-Telling’

MSNBC anchor and veteran journalist Andrea Mitchell took a dig at the Trump White House while praising MSNBC host and ex-Biden press secretary Jen Psaki’s “reputation for honesty and truth-telling.”

Psaki was a guest on Wednesday’s edition of MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports to promote her new book “Say More: Lessons from Work, the White House, and the World.”

Mitchell wrapped up the interview by asking Psaki about being a woman and a mom at the White House, and by taking a swipe at the Trump-era spokespeople by contrasting them negatively with Psaki:

ANDREA MITCHELL: But when you talk about providing feedback, what’s so remarkable that you and so singular is here, you were a young woman with, you know, very different principals in the Oval Office or on the road with John Kerry, and you were willing to give feedback and tell things that they might not want to hear. You figured out how to do it, which is such a critical part of your book.

But you’re also — you’re a woman, you’re a mom, and you have the experience of the White House chief of staff changing a diaper for you when you had a very busy day at the White House. Tell us about that.

JEN PSAKI: That’s right. Well, that speaks to — thank you again, Denis McDonough, who changed my under one year old daughter’s diaper. He’s now the secretary of Veterans Affairs, so that tells you a lot about him.

But I think what I learned and I talk about this a lot in the book, Andrea, is that sometimes women, whether you’re a mama, you’re not a mom, can limit themselves as they’re growing up and they’re moving up in their career.

And I, I thought that when I told Denis McDonough, when he called me to ask me if I wanted to be the White House communications director, when I told him I was pregnant, I was pregnant, that he would say, “Good luck with that.”

He didn’t. He said, “We’ll figure it out.”

I’m very fortunate. But what I learned from that is that we can’t limit ourselves. We have to ask the world for what we need and see if they’ll meet it.

ANDREA MITCHELL: Well, Jen Psaki, no one has done it better —

JEN PSAKI: Thank you Andrea.

ANDREA MITCHELL: — in various departments and your reputation for honesty and truth-telling, especially when you came into the White House after the previous administration.

You just started off on the right foot. And the book, it’s all in here. It’s fascinating. And especially for women in this profession and my profession. It’s just a great primer. Thank you so much.

JEN PSAKI: Thank you so much, Andrea.

ANDREA MITCHELL: And make sure to catch Jen on Inside with Jen Psaki.
