Wolf Blitzer Airs Damning Supercut Of Trump’s Mitch McConnell Insults As ‘Awkward’ Washington Reunion Looms

CNN host Wolf Blitzer ran a supercut of former President Donald Trump’s insults towards Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) after the lawmaker pledged support for Trump as nominee ahead of the former president’s meeting with Republican lawmakers set for Thursday.

During Wednesday night’s Situation Room, Blitzer noted that McConnell “hasn’t spoken to Trump since the January 6 insurrection” before screening the clip of reporter Manu Raju asking the senator whether he planned to confront the “bad blood” between the two during their reunion.

McConnell replied: “I said three years ago, right after the capital was attacked, I would support our nominee regardless of who that was, including him. I’ve said earlier this year I support him. He’s earned the nomination by the voters all across the country, and, of course, I’ll be at the meeting tomorrow.”

As the clip ended, however, Blitzer called on producers to “roll the tape” – playing back the series of insults that Trump has leveled at McConnell during rallies across the country.

Trump is heard calling McConnell a “loser” and a “disaster” and insulting the senator’s wife, Elaine Chao, calling her “Coco Chao.”

The host cut in: “And despite all of that, the senator is now falling in line for tomorrow’s meeting. What does that say to you about Trump’s consolidation of power within the GOP?”

Guest panelists former Republican congressman Charlie Dent and CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers weighed in, reflecting on what they’d just seen.

Dent said that he believed it would be a “very awkward meeting” before Sellers replied: “One day there’s gonna be a book written about how Donald Trump made men, like Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio, and now Mitch McConnell, just kind of melt like putty in his hands.”
