Joy Reid Has Unbridled Laughing Fit Upon Hearing the Latest GOP Plan Being Floated to Nominate a Speaker

MSNBC’s Joy Reid lost it when she heard the latest potential Republican gambit to fill the empty speaker’s chair in the House of Representatives.

She spoke with NBC News Capitol Hill reporter Ali Vitali during Tuesday’s edition of The ReidOut, where she was apprised of the situation after Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) became the third speaker nominee in two weeks to withdraw his name. Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) were also nominated, but they too withdrew after they could not get the requisite votes.

“I’ve spent some time reporting over the course of the last few minutes with our colleague Scott Wong that there is now a push being floated by former Speaker McCarthy to be reinstalled as Speaker McCarthy,” Vitali said, as Reid burst out laughing.

“Alongside Jim Jordan as the assistant speaker,” she continued. “Two points to make here – and I do hear your laughter. Two points to make here. The first is one source who was–”

Reid continued her fit throughout Vitali’s report.

“I can’t even continue with you,” said the reporter, who was also laughing. “Let me finish. One source who was briefed on this idea told me that it would work like Pelosi and Katherine Clark, speaker and assistant speaker. So, there is technically a precedent for this, but there is also very much an Office reference here about Dwight being the assistant to the regional manager and I think that’s probably more apt because, as your laughter suggests, this is probably not gonna happen, but it’s being floated and we just report the news.”
