‘I’m Out LOL’: Country Star Quits X, Calling It ‘The Most Toxic Negative App Ever’
Country star Jelly Roll celebrated the 2024 Rock Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony by quitting Twitter/X.
On Saturday, eight minutes after posting a group shot with other musicians at the Cleveland, Ohio event including Jack Black, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and Wolfgang Van Halen, Jelly Roll posted what would be his last tweet on the Elon Musk-owned social media platform:
Jelly Roll had harsh criticism for Twitter/X on his way out the door, calling the app “the most toxic negative app to exist ever — PERIOD.” He also called the platform a “safe space for everyone to say mean shit to each other with no consequences.”
Several users had criticism for Jelly Roll, pushing Musk’s talking point that Twitter/X’s transformation into an unregulated Wild West atmosphere was merely free speech. Studies have revealed that hate speech has increased since Musk bought the platform in late 2022; Musk told Don Lemon (in an interview that famously cost Lemon his show on Twitter/X) that “Moderation is a propaganda word for censorship.”
Jelly Roll — aka Jason Bradley DeFord — is a Grammy-nominated rapper/songwriter who has been open about his brushes with the law and experiences with drug addiction.
