James Comer Tells Newsmax He Wants AG Garland ‘Put On Trial’ Over Crashing Biden Probe

Rep. James Comer told Newsmax hosts Shaun Kraisman and Emma Rechenberg that Attorney General Merrick Garland should be “put on trial” over a probe into President Joe Biden that has crashed after years of floundering.

Comer leads the House Oversight Committee, which has held hearing after hearing in an impeachment inquiry that has widely been seen as faltering, even among conservative-leaning media outlets and Republicans.

Comer’s probe has been dogged by headline after headline featuring journalists, news anchors, legal experts, Newsmax hosts, Mediaite founders, and even a parade of his fellow Republicans pointing out there has been “no evidence” of crimes or misconduct by the president.

But on Wednesday’s edition of Newsmax TV’s National Report, Comer insisted that his probe’s failure is Garland’s fault, and he should be investigated and tried for “obstructing” the investigation into Hunter Biden. The question was about ex-President Donald Trump’s gag order:

EMMA RECHENBERG: We know throughout the course of this trial, the only figure in it really has been Donald Trump, who’s facing a gag order. Ohio Senator JD Vance taking note of that, sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland requesting the DOJ looks into this gag order placed on the former president.

Writing in his letter to Garland, “The public evidence suggests that an investigation is warranted. At least the statutes would seem to have quite a lot to say about the conduct of Juan Merchan, the New York trial judge and Democratic political donor who set up a kangaroo court for Donald Trump in Manhattan.”

Congressman, do you believe the Justice Department or the attorney general will take interest looking into this gag order?

REP. JAMES COMER: Absolutely not.

I think that Merrick Garland should be investigated. If anyone should be on trial, it should be Merrick Garland.

I mean, if you look at all the obstruction that he has demonstrated in my investigation of Biden family corruption, I mean, that alone would get a normal attorney general in front of some type of court.
