Tarlov Fires Back at Gutfeld for Claiming Trump Didn’t Change Abortion Stance: ‘He Did Last Week’
Greg Gutfeld and Jessica Tarlov butted heads on Monday’s edition of The Five during a discussion about abortion’s impact on the upcoming elections.
Former President Donald Trump famously appointed three of the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion. This, Gutfeld claimed, removes abortion as a national issue.
“The Supreme Court and Trump have decoupled abortion,” he said. “It’s not a national issue anymore. It’s off the table. So, women don’t have to be the single issue voter anymore. They don’t have to ignore crime, immigration, inflation, energy, education.”
Gutfeld noted that Trump opposes a national abortion ban and declared that the issue is “not on the table.”
“Why did Trump flip-flop on it, then?” Tarlov asked, referring to Trump’s comments from Aug. 29. The former president was asked if he supports a ballot measure in his state of Florida to extend the abortion cutoff from six weeks to 23 or 24 weeks.
“Well, I do know, but I do want more than six weeks,” Trump said. “I want more than six weeks.”
“He never did,” Gutfeld insisted.
“He did last week,” she said, referring to the Trump campaign walking back his remarks the next day. “He said he knows that a six-week abortion ban is draconian and then, when I guess he heard from the big donors, he said, ‘Ah, you know what? I’m just gonna let it go.'”
“This is a state thing,” Gutfeld protested as the two continued talking past each other. “It’s closer to the voters.”
