Fox’s Steve Doocy Interviews the Parents of WSJ Journalist Held Prisoner in Russia For 250 Days: ‘We Want Our Son Back’

It has been 250 days since Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Street Journal reporter, was detained by Russian authorities and baselessly accused of being a spy. He has spent most of 2023 being held in a Russian prison while his fellow journalists and U.S. government officials continue to keep his name in the headlines until he is released. On November 28, a Russian court extended his detention until at least January 30, 2024.

Fox News’ Steve Doocy interviewed Gershkovich’s parents, Ella Milman and Mikhail Gershkovich, in studio on Tuesday and asked them about any progress that was being made, their communication with the administration of President Joe Biden, and how their son is holding up:

Milman: If they work as hard as President Biden promised us, until this day nothing has been done. It’s been 250 days, and the case is very clear. Evan is an American journalist, and he’s sitting in the fort of a prison.

Doocy: Mikhail, that’s the frustrating part. The president said we’re going to get him out. But you as a family feel — his family, feel like nothing’s being done.

Milman: Well, we know as much as any American who is interested in Evan’s case, we know exactly the same. And we would like the U.S. government to do whatever it takes to bring Evan home. Evan is in the fort of a prison, the prison that designed to isolate and break you down. Evan is in a very hard condition. And he is fighting very hard to stay mentally fit, to stay physically fit. And he wrote to me in the letter, every day it’s like swimming against the stream.

Doocy asked Milman if there was anything she would ask Biden:

To keep the promise. To keep the promise. We embraced the American trait of optimism. We’re still very hopeful. And we are cheering on the U.S. government. Please bring — concentrate, he deserves it. He’s been there for 250 days. We want our son back. Evan’s friends want him back. His colleagues want him back.
