Chris Cuomo Refuses Directive To Cut to Megyn Kelly’s Trump Rally Speech: ‘It’s Just Opportunism’

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo refused to cut back to Megyn Kelly’s speech at a Trump rally in Pittsburgh on Monday, ignoring a producer who told him, “They would like us to go back to her.”

While Cuomo aired a portion of Kelly’s speech, he quickly cut to a report on P’Nut the squirrel, before taking live calls for viewers.

“Alright, Megyn Kelly making the closing argument for the man she once despised. Why? Opportunity and advantage,” said Cuomo before playing two minutes of Kelly’s speech.

The NewsNation host then cut off Kelly’s audio and remarked:

I mean, look, it works for her podcast. You know, magnifying minorities, picking up on fringe issues, picking on Laken Riley is of course going to hit an emotional note. If you’re worried about homicide in America, is that where your concerns really lie? No, it’s just opportunism. Will it be enough for Trump?

The question is, are enough people who are center-left gonna hear somebody like Megyn Kelly and say, “Yeah, I gotta vote for him. Doesn’t matter how I feel about him”? Or are there more people who are center-right who are gonna listen to Megyn Kelly and be like, “Ugh, I’m so disgusted she’s on my side. I can’t vote for this guy.” Look at his face. He said the worst things about Megyn Kelly until she did the only thing you need to do to be okay with Trump: compliment him.

After he cut to the report on P’Nut the squirrel and took one call from a viewer, Cuomo’s producer could be heard saying, “Megyn Kelly.”

“What about Megyn Kelly?” snapped Cuomo, to which the producer replied, “They would like us to go back to her.”

Cuomo ignored the request and declared, “I’ll take another call.”

The producer could be heard laughing, before saying, “Okay, um, alright. Next caller.”

Cuomo and Kelly have long had a poor relationship, with the two trading insults and criticism as far back as 2015.

After Cuomo launched his NewsNation show in 2022, Kelly protested, “No one’s gonna listen to him… What right-leaning person is gonna say, I accept Chris Cuomo as my voice of the middle, who’s not going to manipulate me by manufactured division. Bullshit. A certain male gesture comes to mind.”

A year prior, Kelly tore into former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and “his loser brother,” claiming they were born into “a family of privilege” and “never would’ve achieved the positions they have had it not been for their daddy and his name.”
