Colby Hall Writes Off Elon and Vivek Appointments as PR Effort: ‘This is Showtime at Mar-a-Lago’
Mediaite Founding Editor Colby Hall dismissed Elon Musk’s and Vivek Ramaswamy’s appointments to the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as “mostly a PR effort.”
Hall joined NewsNation anchor Marni Hughes for an interview on Wednesday morning, during which he had fun with Sen. Elizbeth Warren’s (D-MA) comments bashing the department for having “split leadership.”
The Democratic lawmaker then suggested in a Tuesday post on X that the department would be ineffective because “two people” are doing “the work of one person.”
Hall noted that Warren was “taking the bait” and that the department’s will only be seen as a success if Musk and Ramaswamy actually “cut costs.”
I think this is Showtime at Mar-a-Lago, right? I think this is two individuals who are well known and well liked among the Trump base and were loyal surrogates — really helped Trump get elected. This isn’t a real department. This is something that he just created and sort of gets the fundamental issue of, you know, do we want long term expert bureaucrats, apparatchiks who have been in D.C. their whole lives, their whole careers? Or do you want people who’ve had great success outside of it? And it really speaks to the fundamental issue that kind of got Trump elected and is sort of a partisan debate between Republicans and Democrats. So I think it’s mostly a PR effort. And the proof will be in the pudding If they cut costs and make the government more efficient, well then they will have been winners. But again, this isn’t really a department. It’s more of a thing to get Elizabeth Warren angry about.
