‘I’m Almost Proud of Him’: Fox News Guest Praises ‘Softer, Gentler, Kinder’ Trump for Making ‘Progress’

Ex-ESPN anchor turned conservative commentator Sage Steele professed to be “almost proud” of President-elect Donald Trump on Fox News Monday, one day after he expressed an interest in moving forward rather than looking backwards during an interview with ABC’s Kristen Welker.

After playing a clip from the Welker interview in which Trump said, “I’m really looking to make our country successful. I’m not looking to go back into the past. I’m looking to make our country successful. Retribution will be through success,” anchor Dana Perino called Trump’s line about success being his retribution a “great line” and “great principle,” and Steele heartily agreed.

“It is, I think, for all of us to remember. Maybe make myself remember that,” she began. “Of the entire interview with Kristen Welker that-, I stopped at that moment, that was my favorite line. And to me, it is almost like a softer, gentler, kinder Donald Trump who has softened through this whole process. I think it’s fascinating, I think it’s the right thing. And that is why people elected him, is because they knew, even people who were anti-Trump for all these years, right? They knew all the other side stuff, it doesn’t matter. He has proven through his track record that he is the best person to do this job, to fix us, to make us better.”

After Perino mused that Trump doesn’t have “time to go backwards,” Steele added, “I’m almost proud of him, though, for it, you know?”

“Of course!” exclaimed Perino.

“That’s progress for him,” concluded Steele.

In his interview with Welker, Trump also said that he would be open to prosecuting President Joe Biden, but only if he finds “something that I think is reasonable.”
