Greg Gutfeld Revels in MSNBC Woes – The ‘Must-Sell Network Before Christmas!’
Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld reveled in MSNBC’s recent woes, including Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski facing blowback for a visit with President-elect Donald Trump after spending months calling him a threat to democracy.
On Friday’s Gutfeld!, Gutfeld cited a number of recent turns for MSNBC, including Morning Joe taking a ratings hit, Rachel Maddow’s pay reportedly being reduced, and a headline that quickly sparked conservative outrage on social media.
Gutfeld dubbed MSNBC the “Must Sell Network Before Christmas” following news Comcast would spin off the cable channel and others into their own company.
Gutfeld said:
“These days, MSNBC has come to stand for ‘must sell network before Christmas.’ Their post-election ratings are down 54 percent, that’s 50% more than my body fat, Walter. Hell, Brit Hume’s laxative reviews on YouTube have more viewers. And so they have slashed their budgets so low, Joy Reid had to replace her toupe to pay with a cocktail napkin. But don’t feel bad! Check out this headline that their website dropped today. Quote, Laken Riley’s killer never stood a chance. Now that can’t be an accident. If you ask me, it’s suicide by headline. What better way to kill off the rest of the network than to drop one of the most repulsive headlines of all time. MSNBC did finally change it, but the damage was already done.”
The headline Gutfeld referred to originally read “Laken Riley’s killer never stood a chance” following José Ibarra being sentenced for the murder of the Georgia nursing student. Ibarra being a Venezuelan in the country illegally put the murder at the center of many debates surrounding immigration.
The post from legal analyst David Cevallos, however, only argued that Ibarra’s case was hopeless from the beginning considering the overwhelming evidence against him.
An updated headline read, “the guilt of Laken Riley’s killer was never in doubt,” to better reflect the points of the post. The headline itself, however, was screenshot and shared and quickly stirred up outrage with Joe Rogan, Donald Trump Jr., and others.
Gutfeld also laid into Scarborough and Brzezinski.
“Mika and Joe were circling the drain with Morning Joe’s already low ratings of dropping another 15%. They’re losing people as fast as The View loses toes. The public wants Scarborough’s opinions about as much as his music,” Gutfeld said, cutting to Scarborough performing.
He accused the morning hosts of going from calling Trump “Hitler” to looking for a “belly rub” from the incoming president.
Gutfeld played a clip of Brzezinski claiming the backlash to their visit is due to people being “scared” about Trump’s potential “retribution.”
He said:
“Everybody is scared! They’re so scared! They’re so scared! She made sure everyone knew that. Yes people were frightened, but who made them so scared? You, you diptshit. You convinced your audience that Trump wanted to destroy democracy and kill women — If you really believe the stuff you actually said, you’d be fleeing the country, not groveling on Mar-a-Lago. The fact is your viewers revile you because your motivations were exposed. The fear-mongering was strictly business. And now that your job is in jeopardy, the fear-mongering has gone away. You went telling them trump is evil that Tump is not so bad. Is like your spouse telling you how much she hates her boss before running off with him to Jamaica.”
Gutfeld finally landed on Maddow and mocked her reported salary as a bit over the top.
He said:
“Meanwhile, a salary has been slashed by $5 million a year. It sounds like a lot except she was making $30 million a year for one show a week. So if she does 50 shows a year, her pay went from $600,000 an episode to $500,000. That is like five dollars per viewer. But one MSNBC executive justifies it, calling Maddow, ‘ratings Viagra.’ I’m sorry, she couldn’t even give Chris Matthews a semi. And he’s a horny little devil! So what’s next for MSNBC? They will try to redefine themselves as a start up. But that is impossible because the product is nothing new and it is hopelessly contaminated. It is radioactive.”
