WATCH: U.S. Soccer Star Christian Pulisic Breaks Out the Trump Dance After Scoring Goal
Joining a growing trend that has begun taking over the sports world, American soccer star Christian Pulisic celebrated a goal Monday by doing a dance popularized by President-elect Donald Trump.
Since Donald Trump officially became the winner of the 2024 presidential election, athletes across a wide variety of sports have been seen mimicking the dance Trump did on the campaign trail. Trump often did during rallies when the song “YMCA” by The Village People played.
One of the first high-profile athletes to do the dance was San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa. The star player was recently fined for showing off his MAGA hat during a post-game interview.
The trend continued this past weekend at UFC 309 in Madison Square Garden, where star heavyweight Jon Jones broke out the dance moments after defeating Stipe Miocic.
In the 13th minute of the U.S. men’s soccer team’s CONCACAF Nations League match against Jamaica, Pulisic scored on an an assist from midfielder Weston McKennie. Pulisic ran to one of the corner and did the dance while looking out into the crowd.
Unlike Bosa, however, the dance wasn’t intended to be a statement on Pulisic’s political views. After the game, he explained that it was just done for fun.
“I saw everyone doing it yesterday in the NFL, I saw Jon Jones do it, and we were just having a bit of fun,” Pulisic said. “I thought it was a pretty fun dance. Obviously, that’s the ‘Trump Dance’ but it was just a dance that everyone was doing. He’s the one who created it, and I thought it was funny.
“It’s not a political dance. It was just for fun. I saw a bunch of people do it and thought it was funny, so I enjoyed it.”
