‘There Were Witnesses’: Attorney for the ‘High School Student’ Matt Gaetz Is Accused of Having Sex with Calls for Release of Ethics Report

The attorney for a woman who has accused attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz of having sex with her when she was a minor is calling on the House Ethics Committee to release its report into the various allegations against Gaetz.
“Mr. Gaetz’s likely nomination as Attorney General is a perverse development in a truly dark series of events,” tweeted the attorney, John Clune, on Thursday. “We would support the House Ethics Committee immediately releasing their report. She was a high school student and there were witnesses.”
Beginning in April 2021, the committee launched an inquiry “into allegations that Representative Matt Gaetz may have engaged in sexual misconduct and/or illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct.”
Earlier this year, the committee announced that it was still “reviewing allegations pursuant to Committee Rules 14(a)(3) and 18(a) that Representative Gaetz may have: engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, accepted improper gifts, dispensed special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and sought to obstruct government investigations of his conduct,” but was no longer looking into whether “he may have shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe or improper gratuity.”
After being announced as President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Justice on Wednesday, Gaetz immediately resigned from his seat in the House of Representatives, thus depriving it of jurisdiction over him.
According to Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman, the Ethics Committee was set to vote on whether to release the “highly damaging” report into Gaetz’s alleged misconduct on Friday.
