Dem Rep. Ro Khanna Hypes Up ‘Huge Bipartisan Cooperation’ With Elon Musk’s DOGE Plans
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) hinted that he is open to “bipartisan cooperation” with Elon Musk and his plans for the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) once Donald Trump takes office..
Some Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), have bashed Musk’s new government cost-cutting department by claiming he would go after Medicare and social security.
During a Sunday morning interview on ABC’s This Week, anchor Martha Raddatz asked Khanna about his conversations with Musk regarding DOGE. The California congressman hinted that he told Musk the government would be able to reduce costs within the defense budget.
RADDATZ: You have been talking to Elon Musk. Tell us a little bit about those conversations. He has welcomed your input. What does that back and forth been like with Elon Musk and what do you think about what a huge role he’s playing so far?
KHANNA: Well, there’s one area. Elon Musk was brilliant in that he worked with President Obama and Ash Carter to have Space X and that disrupted Boeing and Lockheed. We were getting ripped off the American people and putting satellites up to space. And President Obama, under his leadership, Ash Carter’s leadership, they said, Elon, with Space X, you can bid on launching these rockets. He had reusable rockets that.
RADDATZ: Now go to your conversation with him.
KHANNA: Well, we’ve talked about that. And I made the case to him that Tesla and SpaceX have been funded by the Obama government and let’s have a role for government. But let’s look at what you did with Space X. Why can’t we do that with other parts of the five primes too, to reduce costs? I think when it comes to defense, getting better defense for value and cutting costs, there can be huge bipartisan cooperation.
