Biden Fires Back at Marjorie Taylor Greene Heckling By Addressing Parents of Slain Student ‘Killed By an Illegal’
President Joe Biden addressed the parents of Laken Riley, a nursing student found dead at the University of Georgia in Athens last month, after he was heckled by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) at the State of the Union Thursday night.
During a portion of his address in which he scolded Republicans for blocking a bipartisan border security deal, Greene shouted at the president. She had, before the speech, given Biden a pin commemorating Riley, whose alleged killer is a Venezuelan immigrant who entered the country illegally in 2022.
“Laken Riley!” Greene shouted, prompting an uproar in the joint session of Congress.
Biden picked up the pin Greene gave him, referring to her as “Lincoln Riley.”
“An innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal,” he said, before turning to Riley’s parents in the room. “To her parents, I say, my heart goes out to you having lost children myself. I understand.”
Biden then returned to his pre-written remarks, imploring Republicans to help pass the border bill and hammering Trump for his rhetoric on immigration.
