Seth Meyer Mocks Trump’s Alliance With Elon Musk: ‘Donald Trump Finally Got His Own Donald Trump!’
Comedian Seth Meyers mocked President-elect Donald Trump’s alliance with billionaire Elon Musk, musing how the tortured Republican’s inability to shake his biggest donor and supporter put him in “a good mood.”
Musk boasts a growing presence in Trump’s orbit, tapped by the president-elect to head up an unofficial department focused on cutting public spending. But the billionaire has been at the sharp end of Trump’s jokes after he became an over-welcome guest at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate post-election.
Meyers took aim during Monday’s Late Night monologue, where he pointed out the irony of the former president dealing with someone as unpredictable and polarizing as himself.
“My goal these days is to try to stay in a good mood about things,” Meyers quipped. “And nothing’s making me feel better than the fact that Donald Trump finally got his own Donald Trump.”
Mimicking Trump the comedian continued: “You can’t. Look, I’ve tried. I’ve tried. You can’t get rid of this guy. Every time he does something crazy, I think, ‘Well, that’ll be the end of it, that has to be the breaking point.’ And then, you know, no, he’s still right here.”
Meyers also poked fun at Musk’s prolific and often controversial social media presence, adding: “And also, I can’t believe I’m saying it, he needs to cool it on social media. The guy posts like a fucking maniac.”
