‘Had to Take My Earpiece Out!’ CNN’s Kasie Hunt Recalls Rallies Being ‘More Polite’ After Watching Trump’s Vulgar Chant in Vegas
CNN’s Kasie Hunt recalled a time when political rallies were “more polite” after watching footage of Donald Trump leading a rally in a vulgar chant against President Joe Biden.
During a campaign stop in Las Vegas over the weekend, supporters of the former president chanted “bullshit” as Trump was criticizing Biden’s executive order regarding the southern border. Biden’s executive order temporarily shuts down asylum requests if daily encounters are averaging more than 2,500 over the course of a week.
“It’s weak. It’s ineffective. It’s bullshit,” Trump told the Las Vegas crowd.
They then excitedly joined in and chanted “bullshit” over and over again.
“This words seems to be catching on a little bit, but in a much more positive way than deplorable,” Trump told the crowd.
CNN’s footage repeatedly bleeped the vulgar chant, leading Hunt to take out her earpiece while the video played on CNN This Morning on Monday. Hunt was joined by Dispatch editor-in-chief Jonah Goldberg, New York Times reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro, and Atlantic writer Elaina Plott Calabro.
“I had to take my earpiece out [because of] the bleeping!” Hunt said as the panel laughed.
“Wonderful that this is now introduced to the political lexicon,” Garcia-Navarro said. “Another triumph for the Trump campaign.”
Hunt then recalled covering the presidential campaign of Mitt Romney, noting it was slightly more “polite” than the current campaign rallies.
“When I first started doing this, I feel like — I guess I was covering Mitt Romney — everything was a little more polite,” Hunt said, noting there was no such vulgar “chant” at Romney’s events.
