CNN’s Scott Jennings Shocks Panel By Defending Trump’s Economic Club Interview: ‘You Will Never Say He Didn’t Do Well!’

CNN’s Scott Jennings turned some heads after defending former President Donald Trump’s fiery appearance for the Economic Club of Chicago.

The conservative commentator came to Trump’s defense during a panel discussion on Vice President Kamala Harris’s Fox News interview. Jennings accused his fellow panelists of offering “participation ribbons” to Harris over what he described as a unsatisfactory interview.

“I’m less interested in participation ribbons here. I mean, I feel like every time she does one of these interviews, we sort of end up defaulting to, well, at least she tried. I just don’t think that‘s good enough for running for president,” Jennings said.

“Okay, but how did Trump do at the economics thing?” Kara Swisher shot back, referring to Trump’s appearance at the Economic Club this week where he lashed out at his interviewer during an exchange on the economy.

“I thought he did fine. How did she do?” Jennings said.

“You will never say he didn’t do well,” Swisher responded.

Jennings fired back, saying he’s “repeatedly” called out Trump over bad interviews, noting he criticized the former president over his controversial appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists.

“Did I or did I not criticize him on the NABJ on this show? Did I or did I not? So you’re wrong. You can admit it, it’s fine,” Jennings said.

Host Abby Phillip agreed that Jennings criticized Trump in the past, but was just as surprised to hear him defend the Economic Club talk.

“Scott, did you watch him at the Economic Club?” she asked.

“I thought he was fine. I thought it went fine for him,” Jennings said.

“He was literally non-sensical,” Swisher said.

“He repeatedly attacked his interviewer — if Kamala Harris maybe instead of evading the question attacked Bret Baier and said, ‘you’re biased and you’re wrong,’ would you have —” Phillip began asking before Jennings honed in on Harris’s Fox appearance again.

“But she repeatedly went back to the, ‘I’m speaking, I’m speaking, let me finish, let me finished,’ look, she spent a huge percentage of her time today meandering through these long-winded windups to prepositional phrases only to get to these unsatisfactory answers,” Jennings said. “It’s exactly what happened on 60 Minutes and frankly it’s what happened at the debate where she won’t answer the specific questions she’s asked. It doesn’t satisfy me. Now, look, I’m geared against her.”

“I don’t know that there’s a lot that’s going to satisfy you, Scott,” Phillip said.
