Fox News Analyst Rejects Kellyanne Conway’s Defense of Trump’s Economy Speech: ‘All I Heard Were Attacks on Harris’

Fox News political analyst Juan Williams called out former Trump White House aide Kellyanne Conway over her defense of former President Donald Trump’s economy speech, claiming the speech was nothing more than an “ad hominem” attack on Vice President Kamala Harris.

The confrontation occurred during a live discussion on Fox News’ America Reports, with Williams challenging Conway’s depiction of Trump’s address in Georgia on Tuesday as a substantive economic policy outline.

Conway claimed that Trump had “got very granular” in his speech, suggesting it was a direct challenge to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris to “stop talking in generics and be more granular.”

But Williams wasn’t convinced, he dismissed the substance of Trump’s plans: “We have tried some of this before under President Trump, and the trade war’s had a terrible effect on manufacturing here in the United States. It went to its lowest level under the Trump administration in the past. “

Continuing, the analyst pivoted to Conway: “Kellyanne said he got granular. I’m still waiting for the grain here, the granular pieces… To me, this was a speech in which he is trying to set out new policies, I guess. And Harris is narrowing the gap in terms of people saying, who’s doing a better job, he would do a better job on the economy. But all I heard from him was attacks on Harris…”

He added: “All I heard from him was attacks on Harris, ‘Comrade Kamala.’ For an hour and a half, ‘Kamala is a communist.’”

Conway pushed back: “Please! Come on! In an hour and a half, Juan? Come on. You have the text in front of you. Don’t say that.”

However, Williams didn’t stop: “This is pretty much just an ad hominem personal attack and, you know, it made for a rally-like atmosphere. He said it would be so easy but the reality is, even as he attacks Harris, he ignores the fact that the U.S. Economy right now is growing even after covid, it’s the best on the globe…

He added: “It was a brash promise he’s making, to make everything better. He says, ‘It’ll be so easy.’ But the reality is, even as he attacks Harris, he ignores the fact the U.S. economy right now is growing even after COVID.”

Conway countered: “I just can’t sit here and abide these lies.”

Williams shot back: “It’s not a lie. It’s the absolute truth.”

Conway continued: “You sat there with five pages of his speech…”

“And it didn’t produce!” Williams responded.

Host John Roberts laughed and agreed with Williams: “Which was a fifth of the total content…”

“Exactly what I’m saying, it was a rally,” the analyst added.

Noting the host’s contribution, Conway said: “At least he has a respected show up and speak to voters and not be afraid of interviews. Why don’t you offer [Harris] an interview on Fox News? I’m sure Fox would take it. She’s afraid to.”

And with that, Roberts quickly shut down the interview.
