House Republican Takes Parting Shot at CNN’s Ratings After Trainwreck Interview: ‘In the Tank’

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) joined Friday’s CNN News Central, where he clashed with host Brianna Keilar for nearly eight minutes.

Burchett said he supports the House opening an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, who has been dogged by allegations of corruption by Republican lawmakers. His son, Hunter Biden, was indicted on nine new federal tax charges on Thursday for failing to pay taxes on income he received from his business dealings. Republicans have touted checks made out to Joe Biden from Hunter, as well as Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden. Lawmakers claim the payments originated from foreign entities and were part of an “influence peddling.” The Bidens say the checks were loan repayments.

“It goes around to James Biden, the president’s brother, back through one of the 20, I believe 22 shell companies that had been created by Hunter Biden and his associates with the 20 bank accounts,” Burchett said. “And eventually it floats a check to the president, to Present Biden. So, there’s a pretty clear route, and I think–”

“Wait,” Keilar interrupted. “But there’s no connection to President Biden. So, can you explain that? What are you talking about?”

“Yes, ma’am,” he replied. “There is. This latest transaction, there absolutely is. And there’s a monthly payment.

“Wait, are you talking about a $1,300, the $1,380 transaction that the car payment reimbursement?” Keilar asked, referring to checks for $1,380 Hunter Biden wrote out to his father.

“Now that’s what they’re calling it, but–” he said.

“No, that’s what you’re– the committee put out a receipt–”

The two began speaking over each other.

“Are you gonna let me talk?” the congressman asked.

“I did let you speak,” she said. “Congressman, with all due respect, I did let you–”

“This is CNN,” he said. “That’s what you’re supposed to do.”

The interview continued in this fashion for several more minutes.

“That’s why CNN’s ratings are in the tank,” Burchett declared toward the end of the interview, with the host and guest wishing each other a Merry Christmas.
